Member Bill Dancer’s reminiscing on YouTube about the part he played salvaging the “Irving Whale” in the Gulf of St. Laurence.  From a Wikipedia article:

The ATL 2701/Atlantic Sea Lion “has a “darkly ironic cargo of bad memories from one of Canada’s most notorious nautical disasters.” In 1970, the Irving Whale sank in the Gulf of St. Lawrence off Prince Edward Island, taking 4,200 tonnes of fuel oil down with it. About 1,100 tonnes of oil spilled into the ocean, including 5,700 kilograms of oil laced with PCBs.”

Kitsilano Coast Guard Base

Kits Base, located in the marina area of Vancouver Harbour, was shuttered, much to the consternation of the local boating community.  Fred Moxey, a retired coxswain, worked hard to have the base re-instated.
